How do I book a session?
Contact me if you are interested in booking a session. We'll work together to find a good time and place. Try to pick a time of day when your child is usually rested, full, and happy. If you are scheduling a newborn session, please allow extra time (approximately 3-4 hours) for feedings and diaper changes during the session. Sitting fees can be paid in cash or check during a session or may be added to your online print order and paid by credit card.

What can I expect to happen during a session?
I strive to make every photo session experience relaxed and enjoyable for everyone. At the beginning of the session, we'll spend some time just getting to know each other and scoping out the best places for picture taking. Once we start taking pictures, I'll begin by letting you do what feels natural to you. I will then provide a bit of direction for posing. If children will be involved in the pictures, please do not tell them ahead of time to smile on command. Kids should come expecting the photo session to be fun. Tell them to be themselves, and we'll get great pictures.

What is the process for viewing and ordering my pictures?
After our session, you can get a sneak peek of your pictures on my blog or on Facebook. Within one week, I will put your unfinished pictures online for veiwing. You will be able to view and order your pictures through an online photo gallery. I will edit/finish a few of my favorites, but the majority will be completely unfinished. Please keep in mind that unfinished pictures are exactly that...unfinished Any pictures you choose will look dramatically different after editing. You can add pictures to your shoppint cart and puchase them online. All purchased images will be edited before print or download.

Why do you edit or finish your prints?
For a quality photographer, the picture is not complete until it has been edited or finished. It's as if you were going to make an ice cream sundae, and didn't put any toppings on the ice cream. The sundae's just not complete without that cherry on top. Finishing a picture provides me with an opportunity to creatively tweak the picture so that it looks its very best. Below are a couple of examples of pictures that were technically correct when taken and then edited to create an even better picture.

Editing makes a picture pop. The original pictures are nice, but they are not complete or nearly as beautiful as the finished image.

Why don't you finish all the pictures I will choose from?
The reason I do not provide many finished pictures for your initial viewing is so that I can keep my prices low. By only finishing the pictures you will purchase, I save time and am able to charge less. Additionally, it has been my experience that the client often loves photos that I would never consider as a favorite. I want to make sure you get to choose from all the images I have taken so you get the pictures you love, not the pictures I love.

Why do the pictures look too light/dark/off color on my screen?
Every screen will show pictures differently. Screens must be calibrated to show accurate color and brightness. My screen is calibrated so that I know I am seeing what will be printed. If your pictures look odd on your screen, rest assured that they will still print beautifully. If you are still concerned, I will be happy to have you over to my home in order to show you the pictures. We can also order a sample picture before placing your entire order if you need additional reassurances.

Why do you charge shipping?
I partner with a print company that enables me to give you the quality prints and many additional printing options resulting in the best possible portraits for your home. By ordering prints through this professional printing company, you can have prints delivered directly to your door and never have to return to a studio for pick-up. Standard USPS shipping is $5.50; UPS shipping is 7.50; Rush shipping is $20. Orders over $200 receive free shipping. If you are in a hurry to receive your pictures, before you choose to pay extra for Rush shipping, please keep in mind that UPS typically delivers two days after the order is shipped. The shipping charges are exactly what the printing company charges. I have not added any additional charge.

Can I print a list of prices, add-ons, and products?

What should I wear?
My mom always said "you won't feel good about yourself unless you're comfortable and happy with how you look." So, my first recommendation is to wear something that makes you feel good about who you are. It is also helpful to avoid trendy outfits or clothing with busy patterns. Jeans with a simple top is always a good option. If multiple people will be in the picture, it is a good idea to coordinate color and style. If you will be taking pictures with a backdrop, wearing dark colors with a dark backdrop and light colors with a light backdrop is the way to go.

What if my child has a rash, bruise, or scratch on their face?
No problem! When I took newborn pictures of my daughter, she had that new baby skin that peels and looks generally icky. You'd never know it from her birth announcement! Photoshop is an amazing thing. Minor bumps and bruises (and drool!) can easily disappear.

How will I pay you?
Because you are able to order prints online, you may pay with MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or Discover. If you are not comfortable with online payments, you can place the order directly through me and pay by check. There is a $25 service charge on all returned checks.

What is a Shinndig?
A Shinndig is a chance to get together with your friends and end up with some wonderful pictures of your kids! This is not a high pressured sales party. I believe the pictures will sell themselves. The host and friends will receive a card when they leave that has the web address for the pictures taken that day. People can look at the pictures on their own time, in their own home. They can order as many or as few as they'd like. There is no selling during the Shinndig...just picture taking. The host and his or her friends will all receive a free photo credit for attending.
